There are so many factors that affect the mental development of teens. There are both internal and external factors that will affect a teen’s mental health development. I will talk about the multiple impacts both factors have on teens.

How Do Internal Factors Affect Mental Development?

Examples of internal factors that affect teen development include your motives, characteristics, disabilities, and sickness. Internal factors can affect all out functioning intellectually and in general in day-to-day life. A very common diagnosis is ADHD. Also having learning difficulties can affect the child’s development. Things like physical, cognitive, and social skills will be affected by learning difficulties. 

How Do Internal Factors Affect Brain Development?

An example of internal factors is genetics and genetics can affect the growth and development of the brain. Family background impacts one’s vulnerability to getting mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disease, and many other heavily impactful mental health disorders. 

How Do External Factors Affect Mental Development?

The environment you grow up in and live in will affect your mental development. Several studies have stated that the environment directly impacts the child’s mental development. The environment can directly affect brain development, memory, learning quality, and behavior. Environment can also affect you psychologically like affecting stress levels. It can either lower stress and increase your mental well-being or increase your stress levels then make you more vulnerable to mental illnesses. 

How Do External Factors Affect Behavioral Patterns? 

The biggest sign of how external factors affect behavioral patterns in teens is social norms. People wanting to be popular and the pressure to be liked heavily influences teens. However, there aren’t only bad behavioral patterns that come from external factors. Encouragement can come from external sources like friends and other external relationships. Certain external motives can influence how teens act.
